A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The Annual Installation of Officers was held on January 5th and a good time was had by all. Vocal Solos were sang by Miss P. Long and Mr. D. Luttermoser and refreshments and visitation were held in the dining hall. The stated meeting in January had to do with many small details that pertained to the Lodge such as additional fire insurance, and the uses of the Lodge that went out to all of the groups that were using the Lodge.
In February it was moved by motion and vote to donate the old dishes to the new Masonic Lodge located in Cayucos California. It was also discussed to raise the price for initiation into the fraternity, but was held over to a future date.
On March 13 the Brethren were glad to welcome back Past Master Hinds, who battled back from a long illness and made his way back to the Lodge, he was a site for sore eyes. It is worth noting here that once a man was elected to receive the degree's of Masonry, it was some time before he got his first degree, owing to the amount of applications that were being read at the time.
In May a man who had been elected to receive the degree's of Masonry in Clovis Lodge, had a problem with part of the ritual that he was to go through, and was not made a Mason on this night. It was his decision not to go any further and he decided that he did not want to become part of the fraternity.
In May's stated meeting a resolution was passed raising the cost of degree's to $80.00. In the month of June Clovis Lodge worked a Saturday to try and get caught up on some of the degree work that they were falling behind on. On this one day they performed 5 third degree's in one day. It was reported to make a very long day for the Officer's and the Candidates.
On September 11, Constitution Night, was enjoyed by many and Judge's A. Shepherd and S. Walton gave interesting talks on the Constitution and Alien citizenship. Later in the Month on the 25th, Past Master Hinds was laid to rest at Clovis Cemetery, and the kind words spoken of him were, "That he will be greatly missed by the brethren of Clovis Lodge and that all of the improvements made to the Lodge were in one way or another the result of his efforts.
In November it was decided by secret ballot that a First degree Mason not be advanced to the degree of Fellow craft. The vote was 37 to 0. Brother C. G. Courington received his third degree from a combination of Lodge's in the 416th Masonic District of which Clovis Lodge was a part of at the time.
In December a resolution was passed denying admission to a man who had represented himself as a Mason and who was trying to solicit votes for a proposition for the advancement of parochial schools. All of the Lodges and their members were against the proposition, and any proposition that has to do with the destruction of the public school system.
On January 20, 1989 Bro. Horace W. Jenckes passed away. Kind words spoken were," He will surely be missed by all that knew him and he was a very active member of Clovis Lodge."
